Content writing is one of the most valuable skills you can have. The opportunities are limitless, ranging from blogs and web content to video scripts and more.
But how do you know if there’s a content writer in you?
You might feel a spark of interest, but how can you be sure it’s the right path for you? These signs may help you discover the answer.
5 Signs that content writing can serve you well.
1. The obvious. You Got the Passion for It.
It’s important to follow our passions in life—not because it sounds heroic, but because our passions will be the only things that keep us going when times get tough.
If you follow something you’re not passionate about, you’re more likely to throw in the towel when things don’t go your way.
As a content writer, there will be days when you want to bodyslam a flowering plant because you cannot think of a simple line to write. As cliche as this is going to sound, please only start following the content writing path if you are passionate about it if not an algorithm will replace you easily.
How do you know if you got a passion for content writing? Answer these questions and you will know.
-
- Do you find writing in general enjoyable?
-
- Do you lose track of time once you start writing?
-
- Do you feel like million bucks when you finish writing something?

2. You Don’t Mind Researching. Matter of Fact, You Absolutely Love it!!!! YAYY!!
When you start content writing, you will have to write content about God-knows-what. Keep in mind that from tile companies to, capybaras to acupuncture to fitness, nothing is off limits.
It’s a good thing content writers are usually born-savvy encyclopedias who carry information about everything in their craniums. Unfortunately, that is not the case because every project, every blog post, pretty much everything—requires extensive research.
It’s only exhaustive if you hate researching though. 😎
To briefly explain what researching is, it’s basically acquiring knowledge from trustworthy sources so you can use it to write your content. Usually, this research process is limited to performing several Google searches but there are instances where you have to conduct interviews with stakeholders, reach out to relevant organizations, etc.
The more comprehensive the project is, the more extensive the research procedure going to be.
The majority of research techniques involve learning more about the subject you are writing about, discovering the preferences of your target readers, conducting keyword research (which we do to make sure search engines can find our content), and following a few more practices.
Below video will offer you a basic understanding of what it takes to conduct research for a piece of writing.
3. You Love to Deconstruct Information to Present Them with Your Own Spin.
Times are changing and so is content writing. Content has found various forms to show its face to the world and with the rise of Artificial intelligence, putting content together has never been easier.
As content writers, we should be able to do things that these pre-trained algorithms cannot; otherwise, things will get tough. What’s the point of writing a blog if an AI can write it in 5mins?
You should find ways to set your writing apart from the crowds of humans and AIs and the best way to do it is by producing unique content that no one else can replicate. Unique as in a unique approach. Keep in mind that clear and human-friendly content has become the standard for valuable content. There is a lot of information out there, and if you can deconstruct it, that is, disassemble it to make it more relatable and valuable, no AI will be able to replace you.
Therefore, if you enjoy writing things that are easy to understand without making them overly complicated, you were born to become a content writer.
4. You Don’t Mind Hurdles.
This isn’t just for content writers; the ability to persevere in the face of adversity is a desirable trait in life in general. Remember that content writing is a cognitive activity that requires our thinking abilities. Therefore, writing content for an extended period of time can be extremely exhausting.
There will be days when your mind is unable to break free from writer’s block. There will be days when all you see on your screen is a fictional potato. If you’re used to overcoming obstacles with confidence, a little faith, and hard work, you’ll make an excellent content writer. Even if you aren’t, that’s okay because there are many resources and people who can help us keep going when things get tough.

5. You feel at ease editing and proofreading your content.
Choosing the appropriate words to effectively convey ideas while utilizing appropriate grammar and syntax can be tough. It’s okay though because that’s why we have..
*drum rolls please*
E-D-I-T-I-N-G and P-R-O-O-F-R-E-A-D-I-N-G!
As much as content writing is about writing, it is also about editing and proofreading.
Editing generally entails going through your writing until you believe it has reached the highest level of clarity and presentation while remaining true to its purpose, and the main goals of proofreading are to check for accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
You guys are currently reading a blog that was edited a gazillion times before it was made public. not a million times though, probably around 12 times. I had to remove some lines that didn’t make sense or was a bit confusing.
So keep in mind that we never get to be perfectionists with our content as we write it because there is a good chance that we will make a mistake here and there, and being open to it would make the process more pleasant.
“Hey! What about writing skills? You didn’t mention it at all”
Well, there’s a reason why I didn’t mention it. As long as you are someone who’s passionate about writing but does not have the necessary writing skills due to your lack of experience, don’t be disheartened. Writing skills do matter when it comes to content writing but after all, they are “skills” which means you can improve them by practicing.
if you are passionate about content writing but are unsure if you possess the necessary content writing skills, Don’t sleep over it. Just begin writing content, and as your passion grows, you will flourish.
I hope these tips helped you get closer to realizing your dream of becoming a content writer one day! Best of luck!
